Among Scarborough's many attractions are a Sea Life Centre and Theatre in the Round (offering productions and films for all ages) as well as plenty of restaurants, cafes and evening entertainment. Sea trips are available from the harbour and coarse fishing is enjoyed at nearby Throxenby Mere.

The Forge Valley Woodland Reserve lies half a mile's walk from the cottages and quiet lanes lead directly to Langdale Forest. Golf courses and riding stables are found locally and the more energetic might like to tackle the nearby Cleveland Way long distance footpath, with its stunning views over land and sea.

The inviting moorland countryside and picturesque villages of 'Heartbeat' fame are a joy to explore and a trip on the North York Moors steam railway is a must.

A 30 minute drive up the coast leads to the many delights of Robin Hood's Bay and the old port of Whitby, a fascinating historic town, traditionally associated with Count Dracula, and in whose attractive harbour tall ships often lie at anchor. The great houses of Sledmere, Burton Agnes and Castle Howard are all within 20 miles of the cottages.
